. Emily Mortimer

Sleeping Dictionary, The (2003)

Title: Sleeping Dictionary, The
Released: 2003
Genre: Drama / Romance
Runtime: 109 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Plot Summary: An eager young Englishman is dispatched to Sarawak to become part of the British colonial government, encounters some unorthodox local traditions, and finds himself faced with tough decisions of the heart involving the beautiful young Selima, the unwitting object of his affections.

Comments: Worth watching. I'll make this short. The story was good (though I was a bit disappointed in the ending...seemed a little hypocritical to me) and the acting was superb, from everyone EXCEPT Jessica Alba. Good grief, talk about miscasting. She's a great bubble gum actress for a television teeny-bop role and I think she is accomplished and beautiful, but she doesn't have the presence or the maturity to carry off a more serious role like this one. With a different Selima, this movie could have made some serious waves.

Scene Description: Emily Mortimer standing in a doorway and dropping out of her robe to show us her great breasts before she hugs a guy.

... aka 51st State, The
Released: 2002
Genre: Action / Comedy / Crime / Thriller
Runtime: 92 min
Country: USA / Canada / UK
Language: English

Tagline: Have a Nice Trip

Plot Summary: Elmo McElroy (Jackson) is a streetwise American master chemist who heads to England to sell his special new formula - a powerful, blue concoction guaranteed to take you to 'the 51st state.' McElroy's new product delivers a feeling 51 times more powerful than any thrill, any pleasure, any high in history. But his plans for a quick, profitable score go comically awry when he gets stuck in Liverpool with an unlikely escort (Carlyle) and his ex-girlfriend (Mortimer) and becomes entangled in a bizarre web of double-dealing and double-crosses.

Comments: Definatley one for the Brits. Formula 51 is definately a movie geared towards a British audience. The film follows British trends of humor, and it is therefore understandable that a large percentage of the US audience didnt really view the film in the way it was meant to be received.
Sam Jackson was an absolutley first rate choice to play McElroy. Played with such cool and wit that I never tire of him in this film. Likewise for Robert Carlyle, a favourite actor in any case, yet his portrayal of Felix still cracks me up, especially when he is panicking or loosing his temper.
The story was spot on, fast moving throughout with a tremendous twist at the end. It was also nice to see Howard from Last of the Summer Wine popping up on the golf course at the end. He was the LAST person I expected to see opposite Sam Jackson.
Other winners in this movie were Ricky Tomlinson, Emily Mortimer and Sean Pertwee, although Meatloafs role was not quite as good and bordered on annoying occasionally.
To reinterate, this movie is excellent if you're British, probably disapointing if you are not. 9/10.

Coming Home (1998)

Title: Coming Home
Released: 1998
Genre: Drama / Romance
Runtime: 180 min
Country: UK / Germany
Language: English

Plot Summary: Young Judith Dunbar (Keira Knightley) is a quiet, gentle voiced teenager in the 1930s, relegated to a life at boarding school thanks to her colonial parents. Judith becomes adopted into the family of her best friend, young Loveday Carey Lewis (Poppy Gaye), after the death of her aunt and guardian, Louise Forrester (Penelope Keith). Judith falls in love with the family, their home, Nancherrow, and Loveday's older brother Edward (Paul Bettany). When war strikes, Judith (Emily Mortimer) and the Carey-Lewis family all suffer, as Judith loses her family, and Loveday (Katie Ryder Richardson) her fiance; Gus. Judith muddles through the war losing Edward and aunt Lavinia in the process. But the war draws to a close, and Judith finds new romance, and Loveday suffers the consequences of a very hard decision, as she is forced to choose between Gus whom she loves, and her husband, Walter, the father of her young boy Nathaniel.

Comments: Love...Exciting and new...Come aboard...it's World War 2... A 4-hour romance novel set in Britain before during and after WWII. The heroine falls into a fortune near the beginning and nothing much worse happens to her after that. I hoped for a couple more plot twists, but even so, it has its charms, and I looked forward to finishing all 4 episodes. Good acting. Fair-Poor direction. Horrible soundtrack reminiscent of an oatmeal commercial.
American viewers will be surprised (well, I was) by the partial female nudity that pops up every hour or so just as interest starts to flag.

Scene Description: English actress Emily Mortimer's nice natural breasts on display as she lays topless in bed and then climbs out to embrace and kiss a guy. We then see Emily Mortimer and Katie Ryder Richardson both topless in a bathtub as they bathe together. And then wee see Emily Mortimer laying topless in bed and showing us her breasts as she sits up while kissing a guy.

Lovely & Amazing (2001)

Title: Lovely & Amazing
Released: 2001
Genre: Comedy / Drama
Runtime: 89 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: If you're hoping for the perfect family don't hold your breath.

Plot Summary: The Marks family is a tightly-knit quartet of women. Jane is the affluent matriarch whose 3 daughters seem to have nothing in common except for a peculiar sort of idealism. Setting the tone of vanity and insecurity, Jane is undergoing cosmetic surgery to alter her figure, but serious complications put her health in real danger. Former homecoming queen Michelle, the eldest daughter, has one daughter of her own and an alienated, unsupportive husband. Elizabeth, the middle sister, has an acting career that is beginning to take off, but is timid and insecure, and habitually relieves her trepidation by taking in stray dogs. Only the youngest sister, Annie, an adopted African American 8-year-old, stands a chance of avoiding the family legacy of anxious self-absorption. If only her intelligence and curiosity will see her through what promises to be a confusing adolescence. Each of the women seeks redemption in her own haphazard way.

Comments: I found this film to be very just plain "interesting". The story mainly circles around this mother and her daughters, and the unique life they all have. I'm not sure if this movie is considered "indie", but in my opinion it is.. it reminds me of a classic Sundance film, or some kind of film fest thing, which it might have been. I loved the acting and the overall story and plot. I found this movie to be kind of controversial because of it's content, such as the 30 or 40 year old woman having an interest in the 17 year old, the lady standing naked and having the guy point out the "weak" areas of her body. That was interesting content. I definately recommend this film to anyone that wants to relax and watch a film where they can think, laugh, and think some more.

Scene Description: Emily Mortimer in an excellent full-nude scene as she stands completely naked and turns around as a guy talks about her bush, her breasts and her butt.
