Jenny's life is turned upside down when she attends a party hosted by Tim's neighbors, Bette (Jennifer Beals) and Tina (Laurel Hollomon), a lesbian couple who are looking to take the step into parenthood after seven years of dating. A brief encounter at the party suddenly has Jenny thrust into the local lesbian community and a whole new world she never understood until she questions her own sexual orientation.

Comments: I am a straight gal and I love the show!!! I love the l word. I read quite a few postings about how a lot of people thought the show aimed at heterosexual males. I have to disagree. I am not a male but i am a heterosexual. I can relate to some of the story lines because i have been pregnant( bette and tina), I have been cheated on (tim and jenny), I know people who play around (shane), I have semi-dorky friends (dana) and lastly i have been in love. i think the message of the show is that as people we all share at least 1 thing on common. That is that we all want to be loved. It doesnt matter by who or how, we all want it. We strive for it. Its a main priority in our lives from the moment we are born. I think its a great show and i for one will continue to watch it!!

Scene Description: Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman lesbian kissing each other.

Trivia
In Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), she plays a woman passing for white who is actually the daughter of an interracial couple. In real life, this is Beals's racial background, too.

Film debut was in the 1980 film, My Bodyguard (1980), in which she is uncredited.

Turned down the opportunity to play herself in "It's Like, You Know..." (1999).

She put her career on hold to graduate from Yale.

While at Yale, she was classmates with David Duchovny, who suggested her for a part on "X Files, The" (1993) (which went to Gillian Anderson).

In the film Anniversary Party, The (2001), Beals plays a character who takes photographs of performers which she then gives away, usually to the subjects of the photos. Beals actually does this.

Has an African-American father and an Irish mother.

Personal quotes

"It's been perfect. I can still ride a subway and work with great people. I can't imagine being Julia Roberts. I don't have the fortitude to withstand that kind of attention." - when asked by People Magazine about her standing in Hollywood today.
