comments:
Jessica Lange is a veteran actress of film and television whose best known roles include those in Country (1984), Sweet Dreams (1985, as Patsy Cline), and Music Box (1989).

She was also memorable in Crimes of the Heart (1986), Everybody's All-American (1988, outstanding in that underrated film), Far North (1988), Men Don't Leave (1990), and Martin Scorsese's powerhouse Cape Fear (1991).

Titus (1999)

Title: Titus
Released: 1999
Genre: Drama / Horror
Runtime: 162 min
Country: USA / Italy
Language: English

Tagline: The fall of an empire. The descent of man.

Plot Summary: War begets revenge. Victorious general, Titus Andronicus, returns to Rome with hostages: Tamora queen of the Goths and her sons. He orders the eldest hewn to appease the Roman dead. He declines the proffered emperor's crown, nominating Saturninus, the last ruler's venal elder son. Saturninus, to spite his brother Bassianus, demands the hand of Lavinia, Titus's daughter. When Bassianus, Lavinia, and Titus's sons flee in protest, Titus stands against them and slays one of his own. Saturninus marries the honey-tongued Tamora, who vows vengeance against Titus. The ensuing maelstrom serves up tongues, hands, rape, adultery, racism, and Goth-meat pie. There's irony in which two sons survive.

Comments: I am usually a fan of movies with great plots, great characters, dry humor, irony - basically more a fan of good engaging stories than movies. I usually don't care much about special effects, costumes, cinematography and such. But this movie, I suppose because of Julie Taymor, just blew me away visually. And I watched it on a 17-inch computer screen - I can't imagine how great it was in the theater. The color contrasts, backgrounds, costumes and makeup were just entrancing. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot as well, strange and disgusting as it may be. Highly recommended.

Frances (1982)

Title: Frances

Genre: Drama
Runtime: 140 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: Her story is shocking, disturbing, compelling... and true.

Comments: "FRANCES" and Jessica Lange-Simply THE Best! Talk about a TRUE freedom-fighter!! My favorite movie of inspiration! I pull this baby out when I think of MY life as rough, and it helps every time! Sorry-Jessica Lange SHOULD Have won that Oscar over good ole' Meryl Streep...Easy. Lousy Academy politics in action...Again. Oh, well. I was livid at the time (and young), yet now it's just become a listless norm. Solid characters all around but...Jessica, simply "P"erfect here.

In 1970s Manhattan, Lange was represented by Wilhelmina Models, the same agency that later discovered Gia Carangi.

Her interpretation of the pushed-to-the-limit Cora in the remake of Postman Always Rings Twice, The (1981) was partially inspired by the downbeat life of B-movie actress Barbara Payton. In a Rolling Stone interview, Lange mentioned how she thought her character might have first drifted to Hollywood as an aspiring starlet, and costar Jack Nicholson gave her Payton's lurid, tell-all autobiography "I Am Not Ashamed" to look over on the set. Coincidentally, Lange and the blonde Payton were both born in Cloquet, Minn.

She is one of the elite eight thespians to have been nominated for both a Supporting and Lead Acting Academy Award in the same year. The other seven are Fay Bainter, Teresa Wright, Sigourney Weaver, Al Pacino, Emma Thompson, Holly Hunter, and Julianne Moore.

Beat Meryl Streep for the role of "Patsy Cline" in Sweet Dreams (1985), according to Streep. Streep said it was one of the few if not the only role she ever went after. Then later said that she couldn't however, imagine the movie without her (Lange).

Measurements: 34B-22-34 (modeling in Paris in 1973), 36C-24 1/2-35 (in 1990), (Source: Celebrity Sleuth magazine)

She was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001 (2000 season) for Best Actress for her performance in Long Day's Journey into Night at the Lyric Theatre.
