Comments:
One
of the finest movies ever made. Streets is proof that
a low budget film can be superior to a major studio
production in every way. This is a sad and poignant
movie that should be on everyone's must see list.
The use of color filters is far more effective than
in Trafik, the soundtrack is beautiful and the story
new, despite following a well worn plot. Christina
Applegate gives a tragic performance on par with Henry
Fonda in The Grapes of Wrath. Much as I loved her
in a mini skirt, this is truly the greatest performance
of her career. Streets is a brutal and often masochistic
look at the darker potentials of human nature. It
shows how far people can sink and just how fiercely
they will fight to hold onto their humanity. Streets
is definately not a feel good movie, Applegate smiles
maybe twice in the whole film. This is a film with
deep substance and meaning which never degrades into
a "message movie". Watching Streets is like
watching street poetry. It is Art of the highest order.
That greatest of rarities in American cinema-a tragedy
without a happy ending.
