After happily flunking out of several Prep Schools, Igby escapes into the bohemian underworld of Manhattan. His darkly comic trip--shared by a deviant cast of characters, including his terminally bored, part-time lover Sookie, his Godfater's trophy mistress Rachel, and smack-dealing performance artists Russel--veers from bizarre to tragic in Igby's ultimately noble attempt to keep himself from "going down." Comments: A very strange comedy with touches of sentiment, flamboyant characters and clever dialogue. Igby Goes Down didn't really leave me with a strong feeling after I flicked it off, but along the way it was very amusing. The characters are sort of cliched: the older achiever brother, the younger scamp troubled troublemaker brother, the pernicious mother who tries to force her son back on the "right track." But the actors and the acting are wonderful, so it all works out in the end. Definitely worth checking out. When she learns their new neighbor is hit man Jimmy the Tulip, with a price on his head, she sends Oz to Chicago to earn a finder's fee telling Mob boss Yanni where to find Jimmy. To get his wife off his back, Oz goes, his assistant Jill urging him to get laid while there. One of Yanni's men awaits Oz at the hotel; Oz's now in too deep to avoid telling Yanni what he knows. Meanwhile, Oz's wife rats on Oz to Jimmy, hoping Jimmy will kill Oz and she can cash in on life insurance. Oz meets Jimmy's wife (Yanni's captive), flips for her, and the double-crosses mount. Even Jill isn't whom she seems. Comments: One of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It's weird seeing Bruce Willis in a comedy but he does a really good job in it though. Most of the jokes come from Matthew Perry who plays Oz though. The jokes are done mostly by him being nervous in the movie but I won't spoil it for you. I had a really good laugh, I give it 10 out of 10. Comments: The first time I saw this movie I felt it was at best an average comedy. However it was on again and again on HBO and it really grew on me I started laughing more and more with each viewing.
