comments:
Charlize Theron is a former model-turned-actress whose stunning presence in film and on magazine covers has had men fantasizing about her for years. Her big break came from her role in 2 Days in the Valley, where she had an infamous fight scene with Teri Hatcher.

Charlize Theron has an amazing physical presence and an inexplicable sexiness about her. She's a beautiful actress, so of course, we inevitably fell in love with her.

She starred hit movies like The Devil's Advocate, Reindeer Games and the new release The Legend of Bagger Vance.

2 Days in the Valley (1996)

Title: 2 Days in the Valley
Released: 1996
Genre: Crime / Drama
Runtime: 104 min
Country: USA
Language: English / Vietnamese

Tagline: You have one minute to decide the rest of your life.

Plot Summary: John Herzfeld deftly welds together a multitude of subplots-- a loser hitman and a cool assassin involved in an insurance scam; a washed-up director, turned suicidal, if only he had someone to care for his beloved dog; a snooty art dealer, wracked by kidney stones, cared for by his devoted assistant; a grungy deranged vice cop, now partnered with a fresh-faced rookie; and two beautiful and jealous women entangled in their deadly scheme--into a spoof of the crime thriller genre.

Comments: This is one of my favorite movies of the past 10-15 years. The plot is intriguing and the characters are terrific. But, it is truly a romantic comedy and not a crime drama, even if there are a few dead bodies by the time it is done. James Spader is an incredible bad guy and Eric Stolz and Jeff Daniels are great if incompetent cops. I try to watch this about once a year just for the enjoyment of watching the various plot lines come together.

Runtime: 104 min / USA:124 min (director's cut)
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: The trap is set. The game is on.

Plot Summary: After being imprisoned for six years on a grand theft auto charge, Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck) and his cellmate Nick (James Frain) are finally going to be paroled. After hearing endless stories during his incarceration of Nick's romantic correspondence to a woman named Ashley he has never met (Charlize Theron), Rudy is looking forward to returning to his family and having a fresh cup of hot chocolate. When Nick is killed during a prison riot, Rudy decides to assume Nick's identity upon release from prison and meet up with the unknown woman. Burdened with a base knowledge of Nick's Indian casino employment past, Rudy finds himself in too deep with Ashley's brother Gabriel (Gary Sinise) and is violently forced to cooperate with a casino robbery that Gabriel and his gang have been planning with Nick in mind.

Comments: I know many people crap on this movie, but I find it to be very good. I do not like movies for nudity, violence, or swearing. I watch them for the story and acting. Do not get me wrong, I WOULD take an action movie any day. But the fact is I don't sit through silly movies to see that. Reindeer Games starts off with a great setting in a prison. I recall seeing the ending, and it was so powerful I HAD to see it again. Some would call it corny, but you know. This movie gives the viewers a hell of a ride. Ben's best role, and my favorite Frankenheimer movie. Solid.

Devil's Advocate, The (1997)

Title: Devil's Advocate, The
Released: 1997
Genre: Drama / Horror / Thriller
Runtime: 144 min
Country: USA / Germany
Language: English / German / Italian / Mandarin

Tagline: The newest attorney at the world's most powerful law firm has never lost a case. But he's about to lose his soul.

Plot Summary: Kevin Lomax is a hotshot southern lawyer who knows how to play the game. He gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he is offered a job with a law firm that promises many opportunities. He takes his wife to the Big Apple in hopes of a better life and a good job. He only finds himself on the receiving end of trouble when his boss is the Devil himself and has some treacherous plans up his sleeve for Kevin.

Comments: This movie is such a great work of art. It was craftily directed by Taylor Hackford. The actors and actresses in this movie all did a great job and were believable. Al Pacino always does a wonderful job, there is no question about that. (See The Scent of a Woman) Charlize Theron was also wonderful as Mary-Anne Lomax, pulling off her southern accent (although very thickly pronounced)splendidly. If you liked this movie, I would suggest reading "The Devil's Advocate" by Andrew Neiderman, which is what this movie was based on. It has its differences with the movie, but all books do. Great film.
