New York, New York, USA

comments:
She's been acting since she was six years old in a variety of films ranging from Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders to Sylvester Stallone's Judge Dredd. Still, she is best known for her roles in 2000's A Perfect Storm and in 2002's surprise hit, Unfaithful.

With her sexy voice and ravenous beauty, Diane Lane is the epitome of the Hollywood vamp that has gone missing in recent years.

Released: 2002
Genre: Drama / Thriller
Runtime: 124 min
Country: USA / Germany
Language: English

Plot Summary: Connie Sumner has a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a wonderful son, but she wants more. When she's approached one day by a handsome stranger while trying to hail a taxi, she becomes obsessed with him and eventually starts an affair. But her selfish actions soon catch up with her...

Comments: Terrific film. Diane Lane is a force of nature! My wife and I saw this and both thought that it was one of the best films of 2002. Diane Lane (who got a Best Actress Oscar nomination for this amazing performance) gives another great performance as Connie Sumner. This is a very powerful and realistic look at life and all it's complications. Great story and acting all help support Diane Lane in this unforgettable classy film. 10 stars!

Walk on the Moon, A (1999)

Title: Walk on the Moon, A
Released: 1999
Genre: Romance / Drama
Runtime: 105 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Plot Summary: Summer, 1969: men on the moon, and Woodstock happening near the cabin where the Kantrowitz family stays every summer. The camp's a Jewish fish-bowl. Marty's there weekends; he repairs TVs in Brooklyn. He's square and decent. His wife Pearl and his mother camp with Alison (she's 14) and their younger son. Pearl got pregnant at 17 and feels she missed her youth. While Alison experiences her first date, first kiss, first period, and stealing off to Woodstock with the lifeguard, Pearl has her own sexual awakening with "the blouse man," a peddler who sells at the camp. They too go to Woodstock. Marty confronts Pearl about the affair; she and he have to decide what to do next.

Comments: A WALK ON THE MOON is a beautifully artistic film that meticulously recreates the look and feel of the summer of 1969. If you are old enough to remember that historic summer, I think you'll identify with the societal mood and personal conflicts presented. This film recreates an important moment in time for American society and helps us remember how we grew up as individuals and as a culture. The film is well acted and directed although I thought Tovah Feldshuh was miscast as the grandmother because she was too young. The art direction and set decoration is superb and you can practically smell the air in the Catskills!

Scene Description: Diane Lane having sex with a guy underneath a waterfall, and giving us a couple nice views of her breasts in the process.

Big Town, The (1987)

Title: Big Town, The
Released: 1987
Genre: Drama / Romance / Thriller
Runtime: 109 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: Lady luck is always on his side. Tonight, she's on fire.

Plot Summary: It is 1957. J.C. Cullen is a young man from a small town, with a talent for winning at craps, who leaves for the big city to work as a professional gambler. While there, he breaks the bank at a private craps game at the Gem Club, owned by George Cole, and falls in love with two women, one of them Cole's wife. Infuriated, Cole wagers everything on the craps table, including the Gem Club itself, and he and Cullen have it out.

Comments: What a surprisingly good movie this one turned out to be. This is the type of film that I've been looking for ages. Particularly important for me was the fantastic-looking Chicago, which I still keep thinking about. The back cover doesn't do this film justice, it's superb, and in my top-5 for sure.

Vital Signs (1990)

Title: Vital Signs
Released: 1990
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 103 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: During one incredible year, seven friends discover that love is alive and living in the 90's.

Comments: Although some scenes are over-dramatized, the film, as a whole, accurately depicts the cut-throat competition in medical school, as opposed to another critic's opinion that it was less accurate than the movie, Gross Anatomy, which in my opinion, was the furthest away from reality.

Some scenes in Vital Signs imply that medical school students in their third year (the first year out of the classroom) have more authority and autonomy than what is true in reality. But the film shows the human side of medicine and that medicine isn't an exact science. Physicians can practice and study for years and still not completely understand the human body.

Again, I found this film to be a realistic portrayal of medical school. In fact, I have this film on tape and watch it from time to time to motivate me in my medical career. I would recommend this movie to anyone in the medical field, especially students thinking about medical school.

Scene Description: Diane Lane having her bra removed by a guy to reveal her breasts, and then wrapping her legs around him to have sex with him standing up.

Cotton Club, The (1984)

Title: Cotton Club, The
Released: 1984
Genre: Crime / Music
Runtime: 127 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: Where crime lords rub elbows with the rich and famous!

Plot Summary: The Cotton Club was a famous night club in Harlem. The story follows the people that visited the club, those that ran it, and is peppered with the Jazz music that made it so famous.

Comments: This is one of THE BEST movies ever!!!! I've seen it again tonight for the....teenth time andjust can't stop the shivers it sends down my spine every time I watch it.... It is so saturated with PASSION and tragedy, and yet comes to a happy end! The characters in it are somewhat schematic, but that's just what the director needed to do to depict the 20s-30s ERA.... Pure magic created by great actors Diane Lane and Richard Gere, and others won't leave anybody indifferent! What a great show!

Knight Moves (1990)

Title: Knight Moves
Released: 1990
Genre: Mystery / Thriller
Runtime: 108 min
Country: Germany / USA
Language: English

Tagline: In a game of life and death, one wrong move could be his last.

Plot Summary: A chess grandmaster is in a big tournament, and when his lover is found painted up and the blood drained out of her body he becomes a chief suspect. After he gets a call from the killer urging him to try and figure out the game, he cooperates with police and a psychologist to try and catch the killer, but doubts linger about the grandmaster's innocence as the string of grisly murders continues.

Comments: This film is an outstanding and extremely well written dark, disturbing murder thriller. I was amazed not expecting it to be this good! It does remind me a lot of the early 1970's Dario Argento films with it's black gloved razor blade clutching killer, oddball characters and film style. Set on an isolated island off the coast of British Columbia during a world chess championship, the killer is murdering the locals leaving scrawled blood drenched clues above their beds as he murders by chess moves. Christopher Lambert is one of the eccentric chess players drawn into the mystery who may(or may not)himself be the culprit. The clues in this movie stand up for any mystery lover and it was fun to try to solve the riddles presented and figure out who-dun-it. This is definately Lambert's best film role as he delivers a feverish performance. Last 20 minutes you will be on the edge of your seat as the film rushes to it's chilling and VERY exciting finale. The final camera "flash" shot (see the film then you will know what I am referring too) and last line spoken was a brilliant way to end this really great mystery thriller. This film was only fairly received upon it's initial release and most people have never even heard of it. I recommend this movie very highly for those who like an intelligent mystery that relies on mood, stylish directing and a well written script. 10/10 this movie blew me away!

Chaplin (1992)

Title: Chaplin
Released: 1992
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 143 min
Country: UK / USA / France / Italy
Language: English

Tagline: Everyone has a wild side. Even a legend.

Plot Summary: The biography of Charlie Chaplin, filmmaker extraordinaire. From his formitive years in England to his highest successes in America, Charlie's life, work, and loves are followed. While his screen characters were extremely hilarious, the man behind "The Little Tramp" was constantly haunted by a sense of loss.

Comments: A fair biopic. This 1992 Tristar Pictures release chronicles the life and times of screen comedy legend Charlie Chaplin who's portrayed here by Robert Downey Jr. Downey gives a mostly credible performance in this lengthy biopic which covers the majority of Chaplin's life and goes over several life and film career highlights. Several of Chaplin's closest associates are also depicted among an all star cast. These include Dan Aykroyd as Mack Sennett, Geraldine Chaplin as Charlie's mother, Kevin Kline as Douglas Fairbanks, Diane Lane as Paulette Goddard and Marisa Tomei as Mabel Normand. One of the better biopics of recent years.

Lady Beware (1987)

Title: Lady Beware
Released: 1987
Genre: Thriller
Runtime: 112 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: When Fantasy Leads To Terror...

Plot Summary: Young and good looking Katya, a window dresser for a big department store in Pittsburgh, begins a love story with a journalist, Mac Odell. She is however stalked by Jack, a married man who has a fixation with her. Jack makes Katya's life hellish and when the girl tells his wife about him he becomes wild with fury having been exposed and goes to the store to kill her...

Comments: This movie was a titillating movie. It heightened your senses and was very erotic in a sensory way. It definitely has a feeling of the day and age that it was filmed in, but it was perfect for the dark side that it shows of human nature.

Scene Description: Diane Lane laying nude in bed and then kissing a guy and then goes on top of him during this love scene.

She ended up doing the film.

Personal quotes

"There's a persona to being an actress.... That could put anyone into the shrink's office. Especially if you're fifteen, sixteen, eighteen years old going through that; realizing that the job is to have a persona."

"The only phone call I really yearn to make is one I can't, which is to say" 'Guess what, Dad?'." - Diane Lane talking about her Oscar nomination (her father Burt Lane (who managed her early career) passed away February 2002)."

"Even the short men I know appreciate a woman in heels."

"That was something they hung on me like a Christmas ornament. When I really young yet feeling very old, I offered up a lot of myself to the press; I knew it was good copy. And I knew I had a perspective on the business and my individuality that I wasn't entitled to have. But I came out of that fine because it was just a phase."

"For all of us, I think, when we read the script, the betrayal of trust was the greater crime. That's what everyone identified with, that question of: When are you ever safe?" [on Unfaithful]"

"I don't think it was quite so blantant that people could buy a career."

"Publicist, manager, attorney, assitant, hairdresser, agent, who are you screwing...Thank God I started at an earlier time."

"The script describes our relationship as basically public foreplay..."

"I don't know why I love this movie so much. I don't go to sea, so I'm probably the only one who'll have a glowing report about it because I don't get wet."
