comments:
Gwyneth Paltrow is Hollywood's next Julia Roberts, not only for her looks, but for her talent. We like her because she's a melange of beauty and brains.

She starred in runaway hits such as The Perfect Murder, Shakespeare in Love, Sliding Doors, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Sylvia (2003)

Title: Sylvia
Released: 2003
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 110 min / USA:100 min
Country: UK
Language: English

Tagline: Life was too small to contain her...

Plot Summary: Talented but plagued by her owns demons Sylvia Plath's early relationship with husband and fellow poet, Ted Hughes, is dominated by Ted's ambition and success. In the early years of their marriage Sylvia lacks inspiration and increasingly senses Ted's infidelity. The unspoken question is whether Ted's extra-marital affairs are the result of Sylvia's own insecurities or whether Sylvia's deepening depression is exacerbated by her husbands philandering. It is only towards the end, when they are separated, that Sylvia is able to truly explore the dark depths of her soul and write the searingly brilliant poetry that earned her fame.

Comments: So intense ... Ms. Paltrow does not let your eye leave her from the moment she enters the frame... moment by moment she projects her feelings thoughts... almost painful to watch at times... you almost feel like you are watching Paltrow herself unravel on screen (boat on the ocean. I love Plath and I love Paltrow as Plath... she is heartbreaking and haunting just like the poetry the real Sylvia wrote. She unlike most actresses becomes a character and she became Sylvia Plath.

Scene Description: Gwyneth Paltrow showing us her bare ass and the silhouette of her breasts as she rides a guy in bed, and then rolls over underneath him as they continue to have sex. We Then see Gwyneth Paltrow sitting nude in a guy's lap as she rides him on a couch, her breasts and ass visible as they have sex. We then see her laying naked beside him, and finally kneeling on the couch afterwards, her breasts visible again.

Shakespeare in Love (1998)

Title: Shakespeare in Love
Released: 1998
Genre: Drama / Romance / Comedy
Runtime: 122 min
Country: USA / UK
Language: English

Tagline: ...A Comedy About the Greatest Love Story Almost Never Told...

Plot Summary: Will Shakespeare's life is going badly. His love life is a shambles, he's always short of money, and worst of all, he has writer's block. He's supposed to be nearly finished his newest play, "Romeo and Ethel the Sea Pirate's Daughter", but in fact he hasn't written a line. At a sham audition for the play, he admires a new actor, Thomas Kent, who suddenly runs away. Soon Shakespeare meets Viola de Lesseps, who lives in the same stately home as Thomas; it's love at first sight and he's inspired to begin writing the play. But by the time he realizes that Thomas is Viola in disguise, she's promised in marriage to a lord which means that Queen Elizabeth herself expects the marriage to happen. But Will and Viola find their attraction too strong to resist; they risk the wrath of her fiance with a clandestine affair, and of the law against women on stage by having "Thomas" play Romeo. No wonder he ends up changing the play into a tragedy...

Comments: Brilliantly written and acted. This is one of my favorite movies of all times. The plot is very funny if you know your Romeo and Juliet, and there are so many funny lines. It is also great if you've done any theater work. Maybe Gwyneth Paltrow didn't deserve best actress, but Geoffrey Rush, Judi Dench, and Ben Affleck were all brilliant along with Joseph Fiennes portraying Shakespeare.

Great Expectations (1998)

Title: Great Expectations
Released: 1998
Genre: Drama / Romance
Runtime: 111 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: Let desire be your destiny.

Plot Summary: Based on Charles Dickens' timeless tale, this is a story of the love of a man for an unreachable woman. Updated to modern day New York City, the story concerns a man of modest background who falls in love with a rich girl. But when a mysterious benefactor greenlights the man to make his dreams come true, everything done has the ultimate goal of making Estella fall in love with him...

Comments: A romantic masterpiece. Great Expectations is surelly a gem, a masterpiece of the romantic genre. In these days is often rare to be presented with a genuine romantic (in the literally sense)effort like this. In this tradition, the characters are black and white; there's no "grey" in here, no ambivalences, no ambiguities. But also in a romantic tradition, the evil characters get the chance to redeem themselves. Rendition is always the main theme in romantism: like Jean Valjaean in Les Miserables there is Arthur Lusting in Dicken's Great Expectations. Plus a incredible photography and gorgeous scenarios, and a very intense cast. Ethan Hawke is great, Gwineth in her most beautifull appearance, Ann Bankrotf deserved an oscar and Robert Niro... well, De Niro is always De Niro: the greatest actor of the XX century. The best adaptation of the Dicken's classic ever.

Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994)

Title: Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle
Released: 1994
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 126 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: At the center of the circle is a woman ahead of her time.

Plot Summary: Dorothy Parker remembers the heyday of the Algonquin Round Table, a circle of friends whose barbed wit, like hers, was fueled by alcohol and flirted with despair.

Comments: I enjoyed this film a lot and actually saw it twice when it came out in England. No doubt it is a minority taste, though. It was the first Jennifer Jason Leigh movie I ever saw and she (and Campbell Scott) pretty much hold most of the attention. The film's witty dialogue was also attractive, though I did think towards the end there was a feeling of witty characters degenerating into mere bores. I think one reason for this is that it captured almost too well the essence of Dorothy Parker, a clever but basically unhappy person, and her circle.

Hush (1998)

Title: Hush
Released: 1998
Genre: Thriller
Runtime: 96 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: When Jackson brought home his new bride, she was everything a mother would kill for.

Plot Summary: Helen is the young girlfriend of good-looking Jackson Baring. When Helen gets pregnant and marries Jackson, they decide to move to his hometown, Kilronan, and have a baby there. But his mother Martha, who lives there, starts to do weird things, and obviously she's not too friendly to Helen.

Comments: Thought it was a more than respectable suspense thriller. It definitely kept me riveted throughout. Gwenyth Paltrow, who was offered Kate Winslet's part in Titanic at the time she committed to this project, devles into her role as the unsuspecting fiancee with grace and down to earth affability. But this is clearly Jessica Lange's film. Her psychotic mother-in-law is one of the most disturbing characters I have come across in any film. In my opinion this film rates an 8/10.

Flesh and Bone (1993)

Title: Flesh and Bone
Released: 1993
Genre: Drama / Mystery / Romance
Runtime: 126 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: Evil is patient

Plot Summary: Some thirty years after Arlis witnesses his father murdering a family, he runs into Kay, who happens to be the family's baby who was spared. Kay and Arlis suspect nothing about each other, but when his father returns, old wounds are reopened.

Comments: Good acting, interesting plot. Quaid thoroughly impressed me with his performance. Paltrow (still somewhat of a rookie in this movie) and Ryan are decent, but I fear that Caan may never replicate his "Godfather" Days. Both Ryan and Paltrow have bits of gratuitous nudity that could have easily been edited out without extracting from the plot. I didn't really see a need to make everybody a redneck, though it did add a little bit to Arliss Sweeney's old-fashioned manners.

The plot twist recaptures the viewer's attention, and the story is too original for me to draw a comparison to another movie. This is a must-see if you like movies with spouses opposite each other (e.g. Cruise-Kidman, Willis-Moore [though now divorced], Baldwin-Basinger, Quaid-Ryan, etc.).

Brilliant in her own right, she works at the U.N. and is involved with a struggling artist who fulfills her emotional needs. Comments: A great movie all around. a perfect 10. A well done thriller with good acting and a great look. Andrew Davis did a good job with the camera work and the over all look of the film. it looked clean and sleek and i loved it. the acting from everyone on the film was great too.
