Title:
Center of the World, The
Released: 2001
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 88 min
Country: USA
Language: English
Plot
Summary: A couple checks into a suite in
Las Vegas. In flashbacks we see that he's a computer
whiz on the verge of becoming a dot.com millionaire,
she's a lap dancer at a club. He's depressed, withdrawing
from work, missing meetings with investors. He wants
a connection, so he offers her $10,000 to spend three
nights with him in Vegas, and she accepts with conditions:
four hours per night of erotic play, and no penetration.
During the days in Vegas, they get to know each other,
have fun, meet a friend of hers; at night, at least
after the first night, things seem to get complicated.
Is mutual attraction stirring? Will they play by their
rules? Can it be about more than money?
Comments:
Into
the Depths of Sexuality. Absolute Brilliance! Wang
takes an amazingly insightful look at the correlation
between the sexual mind and sexual body. The film
not only serves as a reality counterpart to films
such as Pretty Woman, but leaves the viewer in a strange
state of simultaneously being physically aroused and
emotionally depressed. Mauro Fiore does a good job
of working with mixed mediums, but the performances
of the actors and the coaching of the director are
the real gems of this film. One of the best of the
year!

Nothing can cure the soul but the senses. -- Oscar
Wilde
Plot
Summary: Interconnected stories examine
situations involving the five senses. Touch is represented
by a massage therapist (Gabrielle Rose) who is treating
a woman (Molly Parker), while her daughter (Nadia
Litz) accidentally loses the woman's pre-school daughter
in the park. The older daughter meets a voyeur (Brendan
Fletcher) (vision), a professional house-cleaner (Daniel
MacIvor) has an acute sense of smell, a cake maker
has lost her sense of taste, and an older man (Phillippe
Volter) is losing his hearing.
Comments:
Quiet
and sensual. An enjoyable quiet movie that examines
people's perceptions of the world and themselves.
Worthy of a watch. I enjoyed Gabrielle Rose's performance.
She was good in "The Sweet Hereafter" and
very engaging in this movie. The rest of the cast
was equally good. I do have a problem with the title.
I kept thinking this character is this sense and this
one is that sense which distracted me from the unfolding
stories. I think a more generic title like "Sense"
would have been better. The ending was unexpected.

Kissed
(1996)
|
Title:
Kissed
Released: 1996
Genre: Romance
/ Drama
Runtime: 78 min
Country: Canada
Language: English
Tagline:
Love Knows No Bounds.
Plot
Summary: Over the years, a child's romantic
ideals about death blossom into necrophilia, the study
of embalming and the most profound relationship of
her life.
Comments:
Great
film! Kissed is a wonderful film! Many people seem
to not want to see it, because of the content and
that is just ridiculous. One of the reasons for why
this film is so amazing, is Lynne S. way of handling
the content. This film is wonderfully crafted. Superb
direction gives the film a vulnerability that allows
us to care for Molly Parker's character. And then
Peter Outerbridge's over the top love is made believable
because of the reality of the film.
Molly Parker, like always was truly amazing in this
film. Her love for the state of death, although seems
like an uncomfortable subject, is made to seem so
real and strong to her. She has the perfect amount
of vulnerabilty that makes us care for her. This film
is a great example of how a lot of money is not needed
at all to make a good film! It is frustrating that
people base the art of film on money these days. Wonderful
performanes and wonderful direction make this a wonderful
film!
