comments:
Tyra Banks is the world's most accomplished African-American model, and her determination and passion for what she does is inspiring.

People still tend to think of Tyra Banks as "just a model," but with an appearance in three movies that recently came out, including Coyote Ugly, she's ready to show the world that she can do more than just pose for photographers.

. Tyra Banks

Higher Learning (1995)

Title: Higher Learning
Released: 1995
Genre: Drama
Runtime: 127 min
Country: USA
Language: English

Tagline: 49 Countries. 6 Races. 2 Sexes. 1 Campus.

Plot Summary: Youngsters from different countries, races, and social background are forced to integrate when they all enroll in Columbus University. They all have their own problems, such as finance, harrassment, personal safety, and self doubt. Additionally, campus life seems to be causing a problem for everyone: racism. Students, already under pressure to perform in the classroom, on the track, or in front of their friends, are strained to the breaking point by prejudice, inexperience, and misunderstanding.

Comments: 'Higher Learning' is one of those rare college movies that actually has a lot to say and doesn't come across as pompous, schmaltzy or boring. It focuses on several students from different backgrounds who have all come to Columbus university with different expectations of what uni life will be like.
This really is a very good film indeed that will really make you care for its characters, especially because even their most heinous actions are shown to have a reason. This is the thinking teen movie, and actually quite unnerving too.

Personal quotes

"Black women have always been these vixens, these animalistic erotic women. Why can't we just be the sexy American girl next door?"

"I am totally against plastic surgery. A lot of people think I have breast implants because I have the biggest boobs in the business. But I was a 34C when I was 17...They stay up when I wear a push-up bra. But if people could see me when I come home and take off my bra, how could they think these are fake?"

"Self-love has very little to do with how you feel about your outer self. It's about accepting all of yourself. You've got to learn to accept the fool in you as well as the part that's got it goin' on."

"Because my hands are rough and wrinkley, they are my least favourite feature. An ex-boyfriend used to call them 'Freddy Kreuger' fingers."

"Black women don't have the same body image problems as white women. They are proud of their bodies. Black men love big butts."

"I don't know what to do with my arms. It just makes me feel weird and I feel like people are looking at me and that makes me nervous."

"I haven't seen the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre. I haven't seen anything. I don't really care."

"I liked college guys but they could tell I was just a skinny girl."

"I love the confidence that makeup gives me."
